The Colorado Avalanche franchise was created when the Quebec Nordiques were relocated to Denver Colorado in 1995.
In the inaugural season in Denver, the Avalanche were able to pull off a trade for future hall of famer Patrick Roy. With Patrick Roy in the net, the team was able to win a cup in their first season in Denver. The Avalanche had continued success but failed to break through with another cup until the 2000-2001 campaign.
