Devon Toews Priorities Are Clear
Star Colorado Avalanche Defencemen Devon Toews has signed a 7-year extension with the team. The deal is worth $50.75 million.
It is hard for me to truly believe that the Avalanche acquired Toews for two second-round draft picks. This was one of the best trades that General Manager at the time Joe Sakic made. While most thought that he was a solid player at the time of the deal no one would have expected him to turn into a top 10 maybe top 5 defenceman in the National Hockey League.
Chris MacFarland said on Friday that it was a priority for the team to get a deal done early this season. personally and from all of Avalanche fandom, I want to extend a sincere “thank you” to Chris MacFarland for getting this done so quickly.
No one on the Avalanche will be happier to hear this than defense partner Cale Makar. There may not be a better fit for Cale Makar than that of Devon Toews.
Stats since joining the Avalanche
2022-2023 season
7 goals and 43 assists for 50 points in 80 games
2021-2022 season
13 goals and 44 assists for 57 points in 66 games.
2020-2021 Season
9 goals, and 22 assists for 31 points in 53 games.
What did Toews have to say?
In a statement that the Avalanche released this is what Toews had to say
I couldn’t be more excited to remain with the Avalanche and continue to build upon what we’ve accomplished so far,” Toews said. “Denver has become home to my family, and we love being a part of this community. I’m excited to get this deal done and focus on our goal of bringing the Stanley Cup back to Colorado.”
This post by Dnvr’s own AJ Haefele says it all…
What do you think? Are you happy this deal got done so quick? Did you want to see a different out come? Were you expecting a trade at the deadline if the Avalanche couldnt come to an agreement on an extension? I would love to hear your thoughts.
